VIENNA (dpa-AFX) - After several years of discussions and disputes, British Airways has at last agreed to change its dress code for its women employees on board.
The airline has been insisting its female flight attendants in mixed fleet on wearing skirts, regardless of the climate. Now, they will be allowed to wear trousers. The employee can now choose to change from skirt to trouser by sending a request through their managers, the airline said.
Though the British Airways has been allowed its international long haul crew to wear trousers since 2003, the mixed fleet women were not afforded this privilege. Cabin crew union, Unite, has been demanding equality in uniform for the mixed fleet crew, since 2012.
Unite spokesperson said that female cabin crew of British airways no longer have to shiver in the cold, wet and snow of wintry climates, but also can be protected against risk of malaria or the Zika virus.
