WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - NiSource Inc. (NI) revealed earnings for its first quarter, with a bottom line totaling $179.7 million, or $0.56 per share.
Last year's first quarter included earnings of $268.4 million, or $0.85 per share. However, in 2015, the company separated its interstate gas pipeline, storage and midstream business into a separate publicly traded company, Columbia Pipeline Group (CPGX). The 2015 results include results for Columbia. This year's results do not include this business.
Analysts had expected the company to earn $0.59 per share, according figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
The company said revenue for the quarter came in at $940.1 million.
(A previous version of this story did not clarify that the previous year's results included the Columbia Pipeline business.)
