BONN (dpa-AFX) - Deutsche Telekom (DTEGY.PK) reported that its first-quarter net profit increased to 3.1 billion euros from 787 million euros, prior year. EBIT increased to 4.5 billion euros from 1.5 billion euros. Earnings per share was 0.68 euros compared to 0.17 euros. In the first quarter of 2016, EBIT and net profit benefited from two special factors: non-cash income of 2.5 billion euros from the sale of stake in the EE joint venture to BT; and the book gain of 0.4 billion euros from the exchange of spectrum licenses in the United States. Adjusted for special factors, net profit rose 1.1% 1.0 billion euros.
First-quarter adjusted EBITDA increased by 12.9 percent to 5.2 billion euros. The growth in the United States of 0.7 billion euros was key driver.
Net revenue increased by 4.7 percent to 17.6 billion euros, once again driven mainly by the strong U.S. business, which increased by 13.2 percent year-over-year.
