OAK BROOK (dpa-AFX) - After serving up a sumptuous quarterly performance, McDonald's is out experimenting to further enhance its appeal to customers.
The fast food chain is testing garlic fries at four restaurants in South Bay locations as part of an experiment with regional flavors and food on its menu.
The new menu item is dubbed 'Gilroy Garlic Fries'. They are 'made-to-order in McDonald's kitchens where restaurant employees toss French fries in stainless steel bowls with a purée mix that includes ingredients, such as chopped Gilroy garlic and olive oil, parmesan cheese, parsley and a pinch of salt.'
Following successful trial at these South Bay restaurants, the company will start offering it at their nearly 250 restaurants throughout the Bay Area in August.
The garlic is grown by Christopher Ranch, headquartered in Gilroy, California, which is known as the 'The Garlic Capital of the World.
Nick Vergis, Co-op President, San Francisco Bay Area, in a statement, said, 'The response from our customers has been very positive. We enjoy giving our customers options and bringing this local flavor to our world-famous French fries.'
