ST. PAUL (dpa-AFX) - The Travelers Companies Inc. (TRV) released a profit for second quarter that retreated from last year.
The company said its profit totaled $649 million, or $2.20 per share. This was down from $806 million, or $2.52 per share, in last year's second quarter.
Analysts had expected the company to earn $2.07 per share, according figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
The company said revenue for the quarter rose 1.2% to $6.79 billion. This was up from $6.71 billion last year.
