FALLS CHURCH (dpa-AFX) - Aerospace and defense company General Dynamics Corp. (GD) reported Wednesday that its second-quarter net earnings edged up 0.8 percent to $758 million from $752 million last year. Earnings per share were $2.44, up 7.5% from $2.27 a year ago.
On average, 16 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $2.31 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Quarterly revenue, meanwhile, declined 2.8 percent to $7.67 billion from $7.88 billion last year. Analysts expected revenues of $7.87 billion.
Looking ahead, for fiscal 2016, the company increased its earnings per share guidance for continuing operations to $9.70 from $9.20, citing the strong performance in the first half.
Analysts expect earnings of $9.52 per share for the year.
