WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Republican Senator Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., has predicted that GOP nominee Donald Trump will lose the presidential election unless he changes the tone of his campaign.
During a town hall at one of Allstate's corporate campuses on Tuesday, Flake also questioned whether Trump deserves to win.
'One: I don't think he can win if he continues to run this kind of campaign,' Flake said, according to Politico. 'And two: I don't think he should win as he continues to campaign as he is, taking the kinds of positions he's taking and the language he's using.'
Flake also expressed concerns about the Republican Party's low level of support among younger voters and what it means for the future of the GOP.
'Only one in five voters under age 35 plans to pull the Republican lever,' Flake said. 'If we don't change that, we consign ourselves to political oblivion in the future.'
'And we have a candidate that is not reaching out, but is instead finding new ways to offend just about every demographic we have out there,' he added. 'The implications will be far bigger than just losing the presidency in November.'
Flake is not up for re-election until 2018 but acknowledged that his comments about Trump could make his political future more challenging.
