VIENNA (dpa-AFX) - General Motors will introduce upgraded OnStar Go in cars to connect and interact with favorite brands. The car-maker has partnered with IBM's Watson to improve its OnStar service and the two companies will share the revenue from the project.
Brands such as ExxonMobil, Glympse, iHeartRadio, MasterCard and Parkopedia will join OnStar Go to provide various services.
OnStar Go will serve as a digital assistant and combines services provided by Google and Amazon. There will be branded ads too through the system.
If the car is running low on gas, the OnStar will direct to the nearby Exxon or Mobil fuel stations. The new service can customise iHeartRadio based on the listening habit of the driver.
Further, using Masterpass system, one can make in-car payments. Sensing that there will be heavy traffic at peak times, the device will alert you to go early from work.
Parkopedia will provide parking spot information, up to date prices and would facilitate booking and payment. There will be weather info and location data through the service.
GM targets OnStar Go in two million cars by the end of next year.
IBM Interactive Experience or iX has designed the device.
