OAK BROOK (dpa-AFX) - McDonald's is planning to reintroduce its McCafe in 2017 to compete in a better way with its rival brands. The world's largest restaurant chain has been experiencing severe competition from Starbucks and Dunkin's Donuts.
McDonald's has launched the more soothing fast food brand McCafe in 2008 and started serving a line of specially brewed coffee and espresso based beverages.
McCafe brand is reportedly generating $4 billion in U.S. annually. According to Reuters, the brand is planning a $1 drip coffee and $2 small specialty beverage in the first quarter of 2017.
Earlier in October, McDonald's has announced its plans to source all coffee beans from certified sustainable sources by 2020. As part of a plan to transform coffee industry, the company has been partnering with Conservation International. The chain has also announced its plans to keep off from artificial preservatives and to use free range eggs. The company has claimed that it sourced majority of its coffee in 2015 ethically.
