DEARBORN (dpa-AFX) - A long list of potential nominees for Secretary of State under President-elect Donald Trump has widened to include former Ford (F) CEO Alan Mulally.
Trump senior adviser Kellyanne Conway revealed that Mulally is under consideration to be the nation's top diplomat in an interview on Fox News on Friday.
'The secretary of state field has obviously broadened and widened,' Conway said, noting that Trump is meeting with 'a number of men and women who have very diverse backgrounds.'
Mulally, who is credited with engineering a turnaround by Ford, also previously served as executive vice president of Boeing (BA) and currently sits on the board of Google.
Conway said the list of potential Secretary of State nominees also includes former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, and former CIA Director David Petraeus.
Senator Bob Corker, R-Tenn., Exxon Mobil (XOM) CEO Rex Tillerson, former UN Ambassador John Bolton, and Congressman Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif., were also cited as potential nominees.
'There are a number of people who have come in recent days and weeks to interview with the president-elect and the vice president-elect,' Conway said. 'And everybody has such a different resume and they all have to have the same perspective, though.'
She added, 'You have to be able to adhere to what will be the Trump doctrine, worldwide, and be willing to execute on his vision for that role as secretary of state over at Foggy Bottom.'
Trump has announced his choices for several of the top positions in his incoming administration, but his nominee for Secretary of State remains among the most closely watched.
