NEW YORK CITY (dpa-AFX) - President-elect Donald Trump has offered Goldman Sachs executive Gary Cohn a key position on his economic team, according to a report from NBC News.
Citing sources close to Cohn, NBC News said Goldman's president and chief operating officer has been offered the position of Director of the National Economic Council and assistant to the president for economic policy.
A separate report from the Wall Street Journal citing two Trump transition advisers said Cohn is the leading candidate for the job at the NEC, which advises the president on U.S. and global economic policy.
Cohn, who has been seen as a potential successor to Goldman chief executive officer Lloyd Blankfein, would be the third former employee of the Wall Street firm tapped to join Trump's administration.
Trump's Treasury Secretary nominee Steven Mnuchin and senior advisor Steve Bannon also worked at Goldman Sachs.
The decision to put several Goldman alums in top positions comes even though Trump repeatedly attacked the financial giant during the presidential campaign.
