HEILBRONN, Germany, June 1 /PRNewswire/ --
Atmel(R) Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML) announced today the availability of its new stand-alone LIN bus transceiver IC ATA6661 which complies with the new LIN2.0 standard and provides outstanding ESD protection (5 kV). To meet the 42-V powernet requirements, the bus output can tolerate short circuits of up to 60 V. Manufactured using Atmel's 0.8-micron BCDMOS process technology, the ATA6661 is optimised for operation up to 40 Volts and applications in harsh environments. This includes automotive comfort applications such as door modules, seat control or intelligent sensors.
Current LIN1.3 transceivers do not meet the requirements of the forthcoming low-cost, RC-oscillator-based slave nodes with high bit rates. LIN2.0 enables next generation of LIN-based automotive applications and also ensures the interoperability with current LIN1.3 implementations.
The ATA6661 is a fully integrated LIN transceiver according to the LIN2.0 specification released in September 2003. It interfaces the LIN protocol handler and the LIN bus. Improved slope control at the LIN bus ensures secure data communication of up to 20 kBaud with an RC oscillator for the protocol handling. Sleep mode guarantees minimised current consumption (10 microampere typically).
"With this new LIN transceiver, Atmel specifically addresses the need for handling the low-speed data communication in vehicles, for example in convenience electronics," Torsten Mann, Atmel's Marketing Director for Automotive and Control products, explained. "Atmel's low-power LIN transceiver ATA6661 is the first of a series of new LIN2.0 devices, further products will follow."
To minimise EMC problems, the ATA6661 incorporates a controlled slew rate according to the LIN specification 2.0. The receiver's input filter helps to reduce RF interference caused by signals on the bus line to a minimum.
Furthermore, the ATA6661 provides several protection features such as over-temperature shutdown, full protection against short circuits and high-voltage-bus-line protection up to 60 V. The ATA6661 is fully compatible with 3.3 V and 5 V devices, and includes a dominant time-out function at the TxD pin to prevent the bus line from being driven permanently in dominant state. A wake-up source recognition indicates at the TxD and RxD pins which wake-up has occurred, the local via pin WAKE-UP or the remote wake-up via the LIN bus line. Depending on the recognised wake-up source, the microcontroller selects the appropriate routines. The device also meets strict automotive qualification demands (protection against conducted interference, EMC and 5-kV ESD protection), and can withstand transients according to ISO/TR 7637/1.
Samples of the new LIN transceiver IC ATA6661 in SO8 packages are available now. Pricing starts at US$ 0.55 (10 k).
