MCLEAN, Va., July 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Freddie Mac announced that Stan Martin was appointed as senior vice president and general auditor, effective June 21. Martin had served as interim general auditor since February 9, 2004. Martin reports directly to the Audit Committee of the board of directors.

In his role as senior vice president and general auditor, Martin will be responsible for Freddie Mac's internal audit organization. He will also be responsible for assessing risks to the organization and providing independent, objective assurance and advice to Freddie Mac.
Martin's career spans more than 30 years, a majority of it spent with the independent accounting firm of KPMG, where he served as the Securities and Exchange Commission reviewing partner. In this role, his client industries included financial services, real estate, and mortgage banking. He also served in a number of different roles at KPMG, including office managing partner, southeast area partner in charge of real estate, and the partner in charge of the Florida financial services practice.
Most recently, he was a consultant to HSBC Bank USA on integration and divestiture matters. Prior to that, Martin worked for Republic New York Corporation as chief financial officer and executive vice president. In this role, he had direct responsibility for the finance function at Republic, which included the tax, comptroller, management reporting and financial control departments.
Martin has a bachelor of science and a master of business administration from Northern Illinois University. In addition, he is a certified public accountant.
Actively involved in the community, he previously served on a number of boards, including the American Cancer Society, the Leukemia Society, the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art, and the Doral Ryder and Eastern Open Golf Tournaments. He is married and has two sons.
