AUSTIN, TX AND ESPOO, FINLAND, Aug. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Xplore Technologies(R) (TSX: XPL) a leading international developer, producer and distributor of rugged mobile computer systems, has received orders for 400 ruggedized iX104 Renegade(TM) Dual mode Tablet PC systems from its recently authorized distributor in Finland, Axel Group Logistic Systems Oy. Axel has been awarded contracts and begun delivery of Xplore's iX104 Tablet PC's and active X-dock vehicle docking stations to major logistics companies in Finland. These deployments are expected to be completed over a nine month period.
The application need and implementation of Axel's supply chain distribution system is consistent across the various logistics companies. With Xplore's iX104 Tablet PC and the selected operation control system users can transfer orders received centrally directly to remote drivers and track the delivery process in real time. This increases the speed of responding to possible changes during the operation flow. It also allows fast and accurate communication back to the customer for incoming and outgoing shipments, immediate invoicing after the shipment has been delivered, cost-efficient communication across the company's internal network and also between the office and driver as well as a low margin of error during the process due to the real-time online data transfer.
The selected Xplore iX104 Renegade Dual Mode Tablet PC is a rugged mobile computing solution designed, manufactured and tested to mobile applications that require reliable operation and durability in harsh or challenging environments. The Xplore Tablet PC leverages the "grab-n-go" feature of Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, which permits instant removal from the docking station allowing the tablet to be used in a mobile situation. Due to the high level of durability the user does not need to worry about damaging the Xplore Tablet PC when using it beyond the climate controlled office environment. Xplore's iX104 Dual Mode Tablet PC systems provide both finger touch and active stylus input thereby maximizing user interface options and application input efficiencies.
Xplore's distributor in Finland, Axel Group, specializes in IT solutions in the logistics field. "Xplore's iX104 is an ideal solution for these projects because of its versatile features. It is fast and easy to attach the tablet to a docking station in a vehicle and also undock the tablet in order to use it outside the vehicle. Xplore's iX104 has excellent integrated communication capabilities and expansion slots for peripherals", states Markku Vilpponen, the CEO from Axel Group. All 400 Xplore iX104 Tablet PC's will be delivered with Xplore's Dual Mode display announced earlier this year, which allows the user to use either an active stylus only or finger touch input. Xplore's mobile computing solutions are also third party tested (MIL-STD 810F) to military specifications. The tablets withstand vibration, shock, drops, varying temperatures, humidity and dust. "Xplore's iX104 can take hits, knocks and even survive multiple drops. The level of ruggedness combined with the high functionality provides measurable benefits for users in different external conditions. The reliability of the tablet and the durability are extremely important for our customers." Vilpponen adds.
"We are pleased to be working with the Axel group as we jointly expand the market for proven rugged mobile enterprise systems," states Mark Holleran, the VP of Sales for Xplore Technologies. "The Axel group has assembled a strong network of application, system and support specialists in order to bring comprehensive mobility solutions to a variety of vertical market customers including supply chain, distribution, public safety and transportation. Our Tablet PC family represents a key ingredient in Axel's delivery of system solutions to customers throughout the Scandinavian region," Holleran adds.
