BEDFORD, Mass., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- RSA Security Inc. today announced that the RSA SecurID(R) two-factor authentication solution was selected by readers of Windows IT Pro Magazine as the Best Third-Party Authentication Device in the magazine's annual Readers' Choice Awards. This is the third year in a row that the RSA SecurID solution has received this distinction. The results from the Readers' Choice Awards are featured in the September 15, 2004 issue of Windows IT Pro Magazine.
The RSA SecurID system is the world's most widely used two-factor user authentication solution that enables secure access to private, networked information –- including Microsoft(R) Windows(R) and UNIX network resources -– for mobile and remote users as well as those within the enterprise. According to IDC(1), RSA Security held a 72 percent market share in the traditional hardware token market for 2003. This was seven times greater than its nearest competitor. The RSA SecurID solution delivers support for most of the industry's leading firewalls, virtual private networks, remote access servers, wireless access points, and web applications from more than 190 vendors.
Used in conjunction with RSA ACE/Server(R) software, an RSA SecurID authenticator functions like an ATM card for a network, requiring users to identify themselves with two unique factors -- something they know (a password or PIN), and something they have (in this case, an RSA SecurID key fob token) -- before they are granted access to secure business information.
"Recognition by end users is a sign that we're delivering one of the best identity and access management technologies for protecting critical information and enabling business innovation," said John Worrall, vice president of worldwide marketing at RSA Security. "To be honored by the readers of Windows IT Pro Magazine illustrates our influence within the security industry and validates the quality that RSA Security's solutions bring to our customers."
The Reader's Choice Awards were developed as a way for IT buyers to evaluate and recommend the best technology products in the hardware, software and services industries. Readers were asked to vote on their product preferences in 16 broad technology categories. More than 2,000 readers chose the best solutions in each category among the more than 700 products and services nominated. Participants voted on what they felt were the most outstanding products in the respective industries and enterprise markets.
"Few people know more about the best values in Windows technology products and services than Windows IT Pro readers -- the people who actually do the buying on behalf of their organizations. By voting for the most outstanding products, IT professionals have rewarded excellence in the Windows technology market," said Karen Forster, Editor-in-Chief, Windows IT Pro.
