MADRID (AFX) - Telefonica SA is finalising the launch of voice over internet protocol services (VoIP), Cinco Dias reported, citing comments by Telefonica unit Telefonica de Espana SA infrastructure director Enrique Carrascal.
Telefonica is targeting "thousands" of clients this year, the newspaper quoted Carrascal as saying, noting that the company will provide special adaptors for clients who do not own a PC.
An analyst at BPI called the news "positive" as it shows "Telefonica's aggressiveness in the broadband segment while at the same time creating a new revenue stream partially compensating the decline in traditional voice services."
