Zebra Technologies First to Offer RFID Printer/Encoders for SAP's New Auto-ID Infrastructure

VERNON HILLS, Ill., Jan. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Zebra Technologies , a global leader in on-demand printing solutions for business improvement, today introduced the world's first RFID smart label printer/encoders designed to interoperate with SAP AG's Auto-ID Infrastructure (AII). The new Zebra XML-based solution enables SAP users to implement compliant "slap-and-ship" RFID solutions, without costly middleware and associated integration efforts.

SAP's AII v2.1 enables RFID-based supply chain management (SCM) and supply chain execution (SCE) processes across the enterprise. Zebra co-defined and co-developed the data, protocol, and process elements of smart label creation within SAP's AII v2.1 and today offers the only RFID printer/encoders that directly interoperate with the SAP application.

"Zebra's RFID printing and encoding technology has tremendous synergy with SAP's RFID Auto-ID Infrastructure. As an RFID pioneer and leader, Zebra has been an ideal development partner in bringing AII v2.1 to market," stated Amar Singh, Vice President and General Manager RFID Worldwide at SAP. "Our combined solutions will help retail and government suppliers quickly and cost- effectively comply with RFID mandates slated to take effect beginning in January 2005."

Zebra was the first printer/encoder manufacturer to develop, and market XML-based bar code and RFID smart label-printing solutions. These solutions reduce the complexity of smart label creation across enterprise-wide supply chain applications. Zebra high-performance AII v2.1 compatible products include the R110Xi and the R170Xi for North America. Zebra has been an SAP software partner and provider of SAP certified printing solutions for the past six years.

"Zebra's investments in developing RFID technology and solutions spans more than a decade," added Stuart Itkin, vice president of marketing for Zebra Technologies. "RFID enables process change that will ultimately bring supply chain operations to a new level of efficiency. Working together, we have created an integrated hardware and software solution for RFID that provides a better SAP customer experience and enables SAP customers to more quickly, easily and cost-effectively deploy fully compliant RFID solutions."
