Owens Corning Information Access Project Powered by Ascential Software and Kalido Delivers Impressive ROI

BURLINGTON and WESTBORO, Mass., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ascential Software Corporation , the enterprise data integration leader, and its strategic technology partner Kalido, a leading provider of adaptive enterprise data warehousing software, today announced a joint web presentation of an in-depth case study on Owens Corning. The company, a $5 billion leading provider of building materials systems and composite systems with 130 manufacturing plants across the globe, built in just 10 weeks a flexible enterprise data warehouse to support price optimization. Owens Corning implemented its Information Access Project (IAP) using the Ascential Enterprise Integration Suite(TM) to profile, cleanse, transform and move data from disparate systems and multiple applications into the KALIDO(R) application suite for adaptive enterprise data warehousing. The Webinar will take place on Wednesday, January 26 at 11:30 a.m. EST. Register online at: http://www.ascential.com/events/webcast.html or http://www.kalido.com/newsandevents/event.asp?event_ID=117.

Klaus Mikkelsen, global development leader, Information Systems, Owens Corning, will discuss how his organization overcame business challenges and IT technology infrastructure problems, and built strong partnerships with business leaders within the organization. Mikkelsen will also discuss Owens Corning's process for selecting technology partners for this project, the work undertaken during the 10-week project, and the significant business and IT benefits Owens Corning has achieved. These include streamlining operations, maximizing gross margin, and providing management with a single-view of the entire enterprise.

"To effectively compete in today's aggressive environment, Owens Corning required a comprehensive and detailed understanding of its global operations. Given the size, complexity and geography of our business, we needed a best-in- class enterprise data warehousing solution that could provide us with timely decision support," said Mikkelsen. "The combined solution from Ascential Software and Kalido has provided us with a game-changing infrastructure within a short timeframe."

"With the global Information Access Project (IAP), Owens Corning realized substantial improvement in productivity and operational efficiency in addition to reducing the sales cycle," said Mark Smith, CEO and senior vice president of research for Ventana Research. "The solution from Ascential Software and Kalido provides a flexible enterprise data warehousing solution with which Owens Corning powers this unique business intelligence initiative."

"We continue to see a strong need for data integration solutions in the manufacturing industry as global organizations such as Owens Corning seek to unify data from dozens of manufacturing plants and suppliers in order to support effective business processes," said Thracy Varvoglis, executive director of industry solutions at Ascential Software. "The Ascential Enterprise Integration Suite enables Owens Corning to gain a single view of

its global business and make confident business decisions based on accurate, consistent and reliable data."

"We highly commend the efforts of the Owens Corning business and IT teams, who collaborated closely to design a fully working enterprise data warehouse that met their business requirements within just 10 weeks -- a project that won them the InfoWorld100 award last year. The iterative nature of the KALIDO application suite supported the team by allowing them to rapidly build and modify their data warehouse in this short timeframe. The implementation has enabled Owens Corning executives to deliver millions of dollars in profits by acting upon the clear view of the business provided," added Andy Hayler, founder and chief strategist, Kalido.
