SAP Customers Using Cognos BI for Enterprise-Wide Reporting and Analysis

BURLINGTON, Mass., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN; TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and corporate performance management(CPM), today announced that global customers are selecting Cognos' industry-leading solutions for enterprise reporting in conjunction with SAP(R) Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW), a core product within SAP Business Intelligence (SAP BI), a component of the SAP NetWeaver(TM) platform.

"Many customers are looking to standardize on a single set of tools for their reporting," said Karen Williams, vice president of marketing, Cognos. "Our broad solution set and continued integration with SAP BW provides new and existing customers with superior universal analysis and reporting capabilities across the enterprise."

Selected by global enterprises worldwide, Cognos delivers rapid and effective global-scale enterprise reporting from SAP BW. Customers worldwide using Cognos and SAP solutions for managing best-in-class performance include:

The Austrian Airlines Group (AUA):

Committed to dynamic development and focused on quality, AUA includes three airlines -- Austrian, Lauda Air, and Austrian Arrows -- which together comprise Austria's aviation market. AUA is a member of Star Alliance, the world's largest and most successful global airline partnership. With Cognos, AUA can access critical information from data housed in SAP BW as well as in its non-SAP solutions, providing a single view of its business performance. AUA is now able to effectively link strategy, people, and performance through metrics, ensuring all employees are working toward corporate goals.

"Standardizing on Cognos as a common BI solution has helped Austrian Airlines lower the overall cost of ownership by reducing the number of BI solutions we need to manage and maintain," said Rainer Pichler, vice president IT Services, The Austrian Airlines Group. "Because of its solid integration with SAP BW, it provides us with better visibility and more consistent understanding of time and cost management. Undoubtedly, Cognos has unbeatable functionality over its competitors."

Deutsche Funkturm:

The Deutsche Funkturm German radio tower is an enterprise of the German Telecom group. It plans, operates, and markets radio towers.

"Cognos has helped us to increase the transparency of all aspects of our business and financial situation on a daily basis," said Mr. Wiedemeyer, Finance Director, Deutsche Funkturm. "Cognos' product integration with SAP BW allows us to leverage our investment in SAP solutions and provide easy-to- deploy data analysis and reporting. Through our investment in the combined solutions from Cognos and SAP, we are accelerating the pace of business processes at Deutsche Funkturm and gain a distinct competitive advantage."

Mainova AG:

Mainova AG supplies 460,000 households and companies in Frankfurt, Germany, and the surrounding area with electricity, gas, heat, and water. Mainova is also a partner in environmentally friendly energy and water supply to 28 cities and communities. The goal was to merge the disparate data resources and develop OLAP-ready data marts with a cost effective and user- friendly user interface and analytical capabilities involving all departments. It all had to be done with minimal resources since many of Mainova's resources were already tied up with the company-wide rollout of SAP solutions. After carefully examining the market for a suitable technology partner, Mainove chose Cognos BI.

"By integrating Cognos with SAP BW, we can address customer needs directly and respond to requirements from our individual departments quickly and easily -- without delay," said Ismute Tews, head of DWH, Mainova AG. "The Cognos solution has proven its economical advantage in terms of quantity, returning enormous costs and time savings in information gathering and delivering more precise information about sales markets and customer requirements."

Mold-Masters(R) Limited:

Mold-Masters(R) Limited is the global leader in hot runner technology. Companies throughout the plastics industry use Mold-Masters products to produce high-quality plastic parts.

"At Mold-Masters, SAP BW is our key strategic data source, augmented by other niche corporate systems. With Cognos ReportNet, we can access the critical information from the data housed in SAP BW as well as in our non-SAP solutions, providing us with a single view of our business performance. We looked at a number of competitive solutions and discovered through a proof of concept that Cognos ReportNet has superior integration and time to deployment with SAP BW," said Val Swift, IT manager, Mold-Masters. "By taking advantage of its next-generation Web Services architecture and effortless integration with SAP BW, Cognos ReportNet will allow us to streamline the entire reporting infrastructure at Mold-Masters."

Today, more than 100 global Cognos consultants and partners are trained on SAP BI integration to help ensure customers get the highest degree of support and success.
