DETROIT, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Cingular Wireless, the country's largest wireless provider, announced that it has expanded its ALLOVER(SM) Network with new GSM coverage in northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. A new agreement with Dobson Cellular Systems brings nearly 70 new GSM cell sites to customers of Cingular Wireless.
Cities that are part of this expansion area include Escanaba, Sault Ste. Marie, Marquette and Iron Mountain.
"We are excited to announce the addition of these key areas of the state to our coverage portfolio," said Brian Ducharme, Vice President/General Manager, Michigan/Indiana. "This network expansion provides customers who travel to the northern part of the state continuous access to Cingular's full suite of GSM voice and data technology."
The agreement follows the August announcement of a $60 million capital investment throughout the state of Michigan to enhance and expand Cingular's ALLOVER(SM) network*.
The network enhancement will enable Cingular customers in northern Michigan to experience the highest level of voice service quality and some of the most advanced data services. Customers in these areas will now be able to use their phones to get to access the internet for driving directions, weather and sports updates or to access email and send picture and text messages.
Cingular customers will have access to some 45,000 cell sites nationally by the end of 2006. The company already offers customers access to the largest digital voice and data network in America, and Michigan is an important part of that network.
Cingular's ALLOVER(SM) network now covers more than 270 million people, and provides service throughout the United States including the top 100 markets. Customers on specific calling plans now have access to the largest mobile-to-mobile calling community in the country, a community of more than 50 million people.
