MCLEAN, Va., Oct. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Highland Hospitality Corporation reported today that its Barcelo Tucancun Beach Resort, located in Cancun, Mexico has sustained wind and flood damage from Hurricane Wilma over the weekend. While Highland and Barcelo officials continue to assess the damage, early reports indicate that limited structural damage to the hotel has occurred. Consequently, the hotel is currently closed while a more thorough assessment is given to the damage and the safety related issues. The insurance providers have been contacted and the claims process is currently underway. The Company will provide more information as it becomes available.
Highland Hospitality is appreciative of the efforts of the hotel staff who successfully evacuated the hotel prior to the hurricane's arrival. The Company is also pleased to report that no guests or hotel employees were injured during the storm.
