NSTAR is deploying more than 40 NSTAR Gas crews along
with their heavy equipment to Lexington to assist Keyspan Energy in
restoring service to its gas customers in the area. NSTAR's help was
requested after an over-pressurized line required Keyspan to interrupt
its service to hundreds of Lexington homes early Thursday.
Though NSTAR does not supply gas service to Lexington, NSTAR crews will work in shifts around the clock to assist Keyspan in restoring gas to all Lexington homes as quickly as possible.
"We're happy to do whatever we can to help Keyspan restore heat and other gas services to the homes and residents of Lexington," said Thomas J. May, Chairman, President and CEO of NSTAR. "NSTAR has a long history of stepping forward to offer just this sort of assistance wherever it's needed, whether in the hurricane-ravaged South, or right here in Lexington."
On Friday NSTAR also deployed crews to Pembroke, New Hampshire where Keyspan had requested help in restoring service to its gas customers there. Nearly a dozen NSTAR gas personnel walked door to door, checking for gas leaks, relighting pilots and restoring service to businesses and homes in Pembroke.
NSTAR transmits and delivers electricity and natural gas to 1.4 million customers in Eastern and Central Massachusetts; including over one million electric customers in 81 communities and nearly 300,000 gas customers in 51 communities.
