WHERE/WHEN: The Chinese Institute of Policy Studies (CIPS) and the
China IPRP (intellectual property rights protection)
Coalition are hosting an Anti-Piracy Global Forum on
November 16th beginning at 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM at the
Beijing Hotel in Beijing China. This one day gathering
will initiate a dialogue and build credibility among
global partners seeking solutions on how best to implement
culturally appropriate media and IPR protection strategies
for the evolving Chinese market.
WHAT: The Anti-Piracy forum demonstrates China's committed focus
on developing a global solution for Intellectual Property
Rights Protection (IPRP) and proactive effort to combat
piracy. For the past three years CIPS, Tsinghua University
and coalition partners have been working to develop the
most effective IPRP capabilities for China's emerging
marketplace. This forum will provide face-to-face
discussions of important issues and concepts regarding
Intellectual Property Rights protection in China and serve
to boost confidence of global media providers that a
collaborative solution will provide the answers to their
piracy problems in China.
WHY: As the economy of China develops, the rise of a larger
middle class increases exponentially. The growing middle
class will search for new entertainment options to spend
their discretionary income. Today's Intellectual Property
Rights (IPR) protection is a critical global concern that
impacts media, technology, and commercial stakeholders.
China will need to develop entertainment options for this
growing middle class through a secured platform that will
protect the IP rights of the delivered media content.
The Chinese Government has closely followed the
intellectual property rights issue. From a strategic
perspective, its position is outlined in the State's
Eleventh Five year Program on National Economy and Social
Development. The explicit goal is to "enhance the
protection of intellectual property rights, strengthen the
system of intellectual property protection, offer secure,
affordable and legal alternatives to piracy, and optimize
the media and technology sectors' environment for
innovation." The People's Republic of China is placing
great focus on developing a 21st Century information and
media services framework. The Global Forum on IPRP will
chart this path in conjunction with key content and
technology provider organizations as expressed by Wu Yi,
Vice Premier of The State Council and Head of National IPR
Protection Working Group.
