
ATLANTA, Dec. 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Mirant (Pink Sheets: MIRKQ) announced today that Robert M. Edgell, 58, will be appointed executive vice president and U.S. region head following election by the company's board of directors on January 3, 2006.
He will have responsibility for all aspects of the company's domestic business which includes approximately 14,200 megawatts of generating capacity. He will report to Edward R. Muller, chairman and chief executive officer.
Edgell succeeds Curt Morgan, 45, who is leaving the company to pursue other opportunities.

Edgell has been in the electric power business for 36 years. He began his career as an engineer with Southern California Edison in 1969, and from 1985 to March 2005, was with Edison Mission Energy. Both companies are subsidiaries of Edison International.
During his tenure at Edison Mission, he held many senior positions, including CEO of the Asia region, chief operating officer, executive vice president responsible for global business development and deputy chairman of Contact Energy Ltd., an integrated wholesale and retail electricity company in New Zealand in which Edison Mission had a substantial ownership position.
Most recently, as executive vice president and general manager, Asia- Pacific region, he led the region to record annual pre-tax profit of over U.S. $200 million.
Earlier this year, he played a major role in the extremely successful sale of Edison Mission Energy's non-U.S. business.
Edgell has a BS in Electrical Engineering from California University at Long Beach and a Masters in Power Engineering from the University of Southern California.
