More than ever before the IFA proved itself to be the
industry's number one meeting place in 2005. The CE industry's
longest-standing trade fair at international level hosted 1,202
exhibitors from 40 countries and drew 245,849 visitors, statistics
which convinced not only the mainstream CE industry. IT companies also
regard their significantly higher participation at this year's IFA as
representing a gain.
Now scheduled to take place annually from 2006 (1 to 6 September), the IFA is recognized as the CE event which unites the CE, IT and telecommunications sectors under a single roof, while strongly reflecting their convergence. A CE industry pace-setter at global level, the IFA ranks alongside the USA's International CES and Japan's CEATEC as one of the leading trade fairs worldwide.
From 5 to 8 January the IFA will be represented at the International CES in Las Vegas. Messe Berlin COO Dr. Christian Goke: "This considerably strengthens the IFA's standing as a global brand on the international market and points the way forward for the CE industry worldwide."
Current developments within Europe's CE market will benefit the next IFA. According to Dr. Rainer Hecker, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the IFA organizer Gesellschaft fur Unterhaltungs- und Kommunikationselektronik (gfu): "As a result of its high standing and considerable success, and with its innovative technology and products, the IFA 2005 was a major economic force and provided CE market growth with a significant boost. New digital products such as flat-screen TVs, DVD/hard-disk recorders, MP3 players, digital cameras, satellite navigation equipment and cell phones are ensuring CE market growth. We estimate that in 2005 the overall volume of the German CE market attained more than 21 billion euros, an increase of seven per cent, and that sales of traditional CE products even exceeded 12 billion euros, a rise of 12 per cent."
Surveys are equally optimistic about market developments in 2006. They forecast that overall sales in Western Europe will reach 58.5 billion euros, estimates which give the IFA's organizers gfu and Messe Berlin every reason to look forward to a successful IFA 2006.
