SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jan. 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- SonicWALL, Inc. today distributed to users of its Internet threat prevention technology protection from two newly-identified flaws related to the processing of Windows(TM) Metafile Format (WMF) images.
The latest vulnerabilities affect a core function of the Windows operating system, explorer.exe, and may cause a vulnerable Windows PC to crash if a user views specific types of WMF images. Microsoft has not yet issued patches for these new issues. A fix for an earlier, critical vulnerability in WMF was published last week.
Within hours of these new threats being identified, SonicWALL's SonicALERT team added prevention signatures to its vulnerability database and launched the protection to all SonicWALL security services subscribers worldwide. Thus far, SonicWALL has monitored tens of thousands of attacks per day attempting to exploit flaws in WMF.
