SPRINT NEXTEL SELECTS AMDOCS TO PROVIDE SINGLE WIRELESS BILLING AND CUSTOMER CARE PLATFORM
Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE:S) announced today that it has reached a preliminary agreement with Amdocs Limited (NYSE:DOX) to provide a single billing and customer care platform for its more than 45.6 million wireless subscribers. The proposed 8-year agreement with Amdocs will continue the integration of the combined Sprint Nextel since the close of its merger in August 2005 and will provide customers with a comprehensive wireless experience.
"After a thorough evaluation process, we are in the final stages of setting the framework for an agreement with Amdocs to provide a single billing platform for Sprint Nextel. We have selected Amdocs to support Sprint Nextel because of its extensive experience in the industry and their ability to adapt to our customers' changing needs and the company's growing portfolio of products and services," said Dick LeFave, chief information officer for Sprint Nextel. "Amdocs will continue to provide Sprint Nextel with a robust billing solution and will enhance our customer experience at critical touchpoints such as customer care, sales and billing."
The new Amdocs' platform will provide Sprint Nextel customer care representatives real-time access to account information for all subscribers on both the Nationwide Sprint PCS Network and the National Nextel Network, creating an enhanced customer experience while enabling the realization of operational efficiencies. Sprint Nextel expects to begin converting customers to one platform in 2006. Conversion to the Amdocs platform will commence once Sprint Nextel and Amdocs enter into a definitive service agreement, and expects that the conversion will be complete in 2007.
"We are delighted that Sprint Nextel has reconfirmed Amdocs as a strategic partner, able to support the newly merged company in its drive for increased growth and profitability," said Dov Baharav, chief executive officer of Amdocs Management Limited. "We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding business relationship helping Sprint Nextel bring new focus to the customer experience."
Since 2000, Nextel Communications Inc. had successfully deployed Amdocs for its billing and customer care system and recently achieved an industry-leading two-day billing cycle. Sprint began utilizing Convergys (NYSE:CVG) in 1996 for its customer care and billing services.
"Sprint has had a long-standing and successful relationship with Convergys and we now look to their expertise during this time of transition," LeFave said. "Moving to a unified billing and customer care platform will be critical in meeting the needs of our customers and continuing to introduce innovative wireless voice, data and content applications into the marketplace."
