Aicent, Inc., a leading provider of mobile data network
services and solutions for mobile operators worldwide, today announced
that Eric Weiss has been appointed Senior Vice President and General
Manager of Mobile Applications. He has more than 15 years of
management, marketing and business development experience in the
telecommunications, Internet services and software industries.
Weiss will lead Aicent's delivery of services that enable consumer and enterprise content and applications to reach up to 500 million mobile subscribers in Aicent's global network. Worldwide, there are four times as many mobile handsets as PCs. Mobile handsets are therefore an increasingly important channel to reach consumers and enterprise users. This convergence of applications with mobile phones, or Application-to-Person ("A2P"), is a fast growing segment of the multibillion dollar mobile data services market.
"Eric is a vital addition to the Aicent management team," said Lynn Liu, President and CEO of Aicent. "With Eric on board, Aicent will accelerate the growth of new service offerings focused on the convergence of mobile communications with fixed line and broadband IP applications."
"Aicent is uniquely positioned to partner with major portals, ASPs, content providers and aggregators to extend their brands and distribution," said Weiss. "The result is increased revenue growth both for these new partners and for Aicent's existing mobile carrier customers."
Weiss brings a wealth of expertise managing telecom and technology companies to his position with Aicent. Most recently, he was Vice President of Telecom Solutions at Macromedia (now Adobe), where he was responsible for product marketing, engineering and strategy. He previously served as Chief Operating Officer at ITXC, as it became the global market share leader in international VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) services. As part of the original management team that founded ITXC, Weiss was instrumental in growing annual revenues to $338 million and in taking the company public in 1999. He also held management positions with Dialogic (now Intel), BCE Ventures and Hewlett-Packard.
