All mattresses manufactured by the Company meet 2007 standards
announced today by the
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission
Tempur-Pedic International, Inc., the manufacturer and distributor of the revolutionary Swedish Mattresses and Pillows, reiterated today that in light of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's vote for a new federal fire-resistant standard for mattresses that mirrors the standard set forth in California Technical Bulletin 603, all Tempur-Pedic mattresses sold in the United States by the Company already comply with California Technical Bulletin 603's higher standard.
"The safety and comfort of our customers in the U.S. and around the world is top priority for Tempur-Pedic, which is why we made this important change last year. While we felt compelled to adopt the new higher standard for all of our mattress models in all states, we are pleased to see that by next year the whole industry will follow suit," said Tom Bryant, President of Tempur-Pedic International, Inc.
To comply with the new standards, Tempur-Pedic's product designers and engineers developed a barrier material that sits directly under the mattress cover and completely encases the mattress so progress of flame spreading is slowed. However, consumer safety was not the only consideration when developing the Tempur-Pedic barrier material - customer comfort was also a high priority. As a result, the barrier material was designed to provide a breathable, comfortable sleep surface while giving consumers the full benefit of the Tempur material.
