Master Halco, Inc., the world's leading distributor and
manufacturer of perimeter security and fencing, announced Saturday,
February 18, 2006 in a joint press conference with Governor Ed Rendell
that it is partnering with the state of PA to consolidate and relocate
its Baltimore and Scranton manufacturing plants into a larger Scranton
site. This manufacturing consolidation also includes the construction
of a new regional distribution center (RDC) for the East Coast.
"Pennsylvania continues to make investments that are helping our companies, our communities and our working families," said Governor Rendell. "Master Halco's expansion plans are good news for Scranton and the entire region. It is through this type of working partnership that we have been able to help businesses improve their competitiveness and achieve an all-time high record number of jobs in Pennsylvania." Master Halco was offered a $1.2 million assistance package through the Governor's Action Team and the Department of Community and Economic Development.
Greg Jendreas, Master Halco's President and CEO, said, "This joint plant-RDC model is a proven one within our other regional operations. We look forward to servicing the East Coast security and fencing industry with the location of this facility near so many major metropolitan areas." The new facility is 270,000 sq. feet and located in the manufacturing district of Scranton.
As a growing urban center with a number of revitalization projects, Scranton's current development and investment plans coincide with Master Halco's strategic direction toward future growth. To support its expanded manufacturing operations and the new RDC, the company will create new jobs and hire people from within Scranton's capable workforce.
Master Halco anticipates a number of operational efficiencies through this consolidation. Joe Bockrath, Director of Manufacturing, stated, "We are investing in an expanded facility to create overall cost savings, standardization, and operational improvements." The company plans on opening the expanded manufacturing facility by April 2006 and will have the new RDC ready to service the East Coast during the 3rd Quarter.
