United Industrial's AAI Services Corporation Subsidiary Wins $48.5 Million in Contracts from Boeing to Provide Maintenance Training Systems for U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor

HUNT VALLEY, Md., April 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- United Industrial Corporation announced today that its AAI Services Corporation subsidiary has been awarded two contracts by The Boeing Company totaling $48.5 million to provide Maintenance Trainers in support of U.S. Air Force F-22 Raptor combat aircraft.

AAI Services will build a new landing gear trainer and a new armament trainer and upgrade an existing armament trainer and aft fuselage trainer for the service's newest multi-role tactical aircraft.

Boeing is a primary member of the F-22 Raptor manufacturing team and is responsible for providing training systems for the aircraft program.

AAI Services' F-22 trainers will be high-fidelity maintenance training simulators for use by U.S. Air Force technicians to develop apprentice-level certification skills for maintaining critical components and systems. The trainers interface with the same electronic maintenance tools and aircraft support equipment used on the aircraft providing high quality, realistic hands-on training.

AAI Services will manage the contract and perform the work at its facility located near Charleston, South Carolina. The finished systems are currently scheduled for delivery to Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas, in the third quarter of 2007.

Since 1997, AAI Services has grown from a niche supplier of maintenance trainer modifications to a leading provider of maintenance training devices for the U.S. Air Force, fielding 26 C-17 Globemaster III maintenance trainers in a variety of configurations and locations. The new order for F-22 trainers adds diversity to AAI Services' roster of high-fidelity maintenance trainers for the U.S. Air Force.

"AAI Services is pleased to have been selected to provide state-of-the-art training systems and services for America's newest air superiority fighter," said Paul Lavin, president of AAI Services Corporation. "Our C-17 Globemaster III Maintenance Training Systems have supported U.S. Air Force transports, and now our training and simulation technologies will help deliver readiness for the service's F-22 combat aircraft wings."

United Industrial Corporation designs, produces, and supports defense systems. Its products and services include unmanned aircraft systems, training and simulation systems, automated aircraft test and maintenance equipment, armament systems, logistical and engineering services, and other leading-edge technology solutions for defense needs.
