James F. Waller has been named Executive Director of
Everybody Wins! USA effective May 8, 2006. The appointment was
announced by Christopher P. Mundy, EW! USA's Chairman of the Board.
Everybody Wins! USA is a leading not-for-profit literacy and mentoring
organization with 15 Affiliates serving children in 51 cities and
towns throughout the country. EW!'s primary literacy initiative is
Power Lunch, a program that pairs volunteers from the community with
children in nearby primary schools for weekly reading and mentoring
during lunchtime.
Waller becomes EW! USA's first national Executive Director. He will establish an office in Washington, D.C. from which he will spearhead a drive to open new offices around the country and strengthen the financial structure and programs of existing Affiliates.
"I speak for all of our Affiliates when I say we are thrilled that James is joining our team," said Mr. Mundy. "With his background in mentoring and education issues, James brings a wealth of experience to EW! USA. We couldn't ask for a more qualified person to lead us into the future."
Prior to joining EW! USA, Waller was Senior Vice President of the National Mentoring Partnership. For five years, from 1992 to 1997, he served as Chief of Staff to Congressman John Lewis working on issues involving education, youth and economic development. Waller is the founding president and charter member of 100 Black Men of Greater Washington, D.C., Inc and served on the advisory committee of the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund.
Everybody Wins! USA and American Business Media are partners in a year-long literacy initiative as part of ABM's centennial celebration.
