Beran has spent more than 20 years in the technology and telecommunications industries. He joins Nextlink from First Avenue Networks, where he was senior vice president of operations responsible for day-to-day operations of the company, including service delivery, network management, field services and customer care.

"Bob is a proven leader and is a great addition to lead Nextlink," said Grivner. "He has a broad background of telecommunications experience that includes leading wireline and wireless operations and is a seasoned fixed wireless industry executive. I am confident he will build on the strong momentum that has already been created and further advance Nextlink's position in the marketplace."

"In a short period Nextlink has emerged as a major force in the fixed wireless industry," said Beran. "Nextlink is well positioned for success. Our spectrum assets, combined with our ability to leverage existing customer relationships, channel partners and the carrier-grade infrastructure of XO is unmatched in the marketplace, just as the demand for fixed broadband wireless services is beginning to increase. I'm very excited to lead the company as we seek to grow the business through customer acquisition, partnerships and network expansion."

Prior to First Avenue Networks, Beran served as an advisor to several early-stage technology companies through his consulting firm. He has also participated as a founding principal in several communications-related ventures. Before that, he held senior executive management positions with General Electric and Bell Atlantic/Verizon, where he developed and led several business units in telecom, Internet, video, wireless and publishing/information services sectors.

Beran received a Bachelors of Science in Business from Bucknell University and earned an M.B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh.
