Industry Leaders Team With Oracle to Deliver Comprehensive Identity Management Ecosystem and Reference Architecture

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- To address customer demand for access management capabilities that extend beyond traditional Web-based applications, Oracle today announced the Oracle(R) Extended Identity Management Ecosystem and Reference Architecture. Furthering its support for customers with heterogeneous IT environments, Oracle has teamed with global Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) to deliver a comprehensive blueprint for enterprise security capabilities that span strong authentication, network, legacy and physical access applications.

Identity management applications have primarily been utilized as a means to centrally create, manage and enforce security policies for Web-based applications with a focus on access control and user provisioning. As more organizations adopt identity management technologies and realize the business value of a single, comprehensive security management framework, they are seeking ways to unify siloed technologies that manage the security of non Web-based applications. The Oracle Extended Identity Management Ecosystem and Reference Architecture enables customers to seamlessly connect existing security systems with Oracle's standards-based identity management framework to help enhance overall security and system management, lower costs and realize further convergence between their physical and logical security initiatives.

Delivering an Enterprise-wide Identity Management Foundation

Oracle's architectural blueprint describes the various components of the Oracle Extended Identity Management Ecosystem, the interaction guidelines between those elements and Oracle Identity Management, and the use cases and resulting business benefits that a unified foundation can deliver. The Ecosystem's ISVs are committed to leveraging Oracle Identity Management as the foundation to integrate disparate identity and access management capabilities across applications and systems. ISVs leveraging Oracle Identity Management include strong authentication providers Authenex, Entrust and Giesecke & Devrient; enterprise single sign-on provider Passlogix; physical access provider Lenel Systems International; and network access providers F5 Networks, Identity Engines and Layer 7 Technologies.

"The boundaries of an identity management infrastructure can span a wide range of technologies and components including authentication, directory, access management and physical security systems," said Gerry Gebel, Burton Group Service Director. "Enterprises are seeking integrated approaches to manage these disparate systems in a more efficient and holistic manner."

"Leading ISVs realize the need to deliver comprehensive, standards-based identity and access management capabilities that address an enterprise's current and anticipated security requirements," said Hasan Rizvi, vice president, Security and Identity Management Products, Oracle. "Oracle Identity Management's strong market presence and open framework deliver a best-in-class identity platform for blending physical, network and legacy access applications."

Organizations Embrace Reference Architecture

Authenex, Entrust and Giesecke & Devrient are key partners delivering the strong authentication component of the Oracle Extended Identity Management Ecosystem. With strong authentication, organizations can increase the level of assurance that a user is who he states himself to be via multiple-factor authentication for accessing a network or online application.

"Under the gun to respond to increasing security threats, organizations need integrated solutions that come ready to meet all of their identity management and security needs right out of the box," said Kevin Simzer, senior vice president, Entrust. "The Oracle Extended Identity Management Ecosystem and Reference Architecture offers our mutual customers unprecedented flexibility, allowing them to manage authentication for both employees and customers with one, multifactor authentication platform."

"Strong authentication based on smart card technology is a key element of the Oracle Extended Identity Management Ecosystem and Reference Architecture," said Christian Hirschvogel, partner manager, Giesecke & Devrient. "As a leading global smart card manufacturer, we are proud to partner with Oracle and to incorporate our smart card-based solutions into the Ecosystem."

As part of the Ecosystem, Lenel Systems International's physical access control solutions help customers unite the physical control and secure access to buildings and facilities to the logical security policies set in the Oracle Identity Management framework.

"Lenel is excited to participate in the Oracle Extended Identity Management Ecosystem and Reference Architecture as it will better enable customers to deploy integrated solutions to meet their physical and logical access needs," said Michael Regelski, chief technology officer, Lenel Systems International, Inc. "The interoperability marks a significant step toward realizing the numerous benefits integrated security solutions can deliver."

Passlogix's technology extends Oracle Identity Management's capabilities to include single sign-on to client/server and mainframe applications.

"An increasing number of customers are seeking best of breed solutions to address their security and identity management requirements," said Scott Bonnell, vice president, Business Development, Passlogix. "By extending Oracle Identity Management to include technology from a complementary market leading provider, customers can easily advance their identity management initiatives."

Solutions from F5 Networks, Identity Engines and Layer 7 Technologies are expected to leverage the platform to secure access to various network infrastructure components such as routers, switches and firewalls.

"Being part of the Oracle Extended Identity Management Ecosystem and Reference Architecture gives us another opportunity to collaborate with Oracle to deliver security solutions," said Jim Ritchings, vice president, Business Development, F5 Networks. "We applaud Oracle for uniting leading cross-discipline industry vendors in the ongoing effort to deliver end-to-end security. Together, with Oracle, we can deliver seamless, powerful and flexible enforcement solutions for today's heterogeneous application and access environments."
