ALLENTOWN, Pa., June 16 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Members of Local 1600 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers have rejected a tentative agreement on a new, four-year labor contract with PPL Corporation .
Negotiators for PPL and Local 1600 have agreed to continue working toward a tentative agreement.
"While we are disappointed in this vote, we're committed to working together in good faith with the Local 1600 negotiating team for as long as it takes to reach an agreement," said Ronald Schwarz, PPL's vice president-Human Resources. "Both sides continue to work toward that goal."
Company operations are continuing, and there is no effect on customers. The old contract expired on midnight, May 7, 2006. Local 1600 has agreed to continue working on a day-by-day basis while negotiations continue.
Local 1600 represents about 3,500 PPL employees at company operations in Pennsylvania. It is the largest of the company's labor unions and the largest IBEW local in Pennsylvania.
