America Movil Tops BusinessWeek's 2006 Info Tech 100 List; Hon Hai, Apple, Motorola, and Google also Included

NEW YORK, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second year in a row, Mexico's America Movil tops BusinessWeek's Information Technology 100 list, the ninth annual ranking of the 100 best-performing technology companies. The report appears in BusinessWeek's July 3, 2006 issue, with expanded content on BusinessWeek.com at http://www.businessweek.com/it100/.

To compile the Info Tech 100, BusinessWeek began with financial data from Standard & Poor's, also a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies, that has computerized information on 10,000 publicly traded corporations. BusinessWeek trimmed this universe to information-technology companies and then added non-U.S. companies suggested by a network of foreign bureaus. To qualify, companies had to have revenues of at least $500 million. Companies whose stock price has dropped more than 75%, whose sales shrank, or where other developments raised questions about future performance, were eliminated from contention. We also dropped some phone companies whose monopoly or near-monopoly power in their countries gives them an unfair advantage over competitors. The remaining group of companies were ranked on four criteria: return on equity, revenue growth, and shareholder return (given equal weight), and total revenues (which was weighted).
