CHICAGO (AFX) - Chicago Board of Trade, a derivatives exchange, said Wednesday contract trading volume rose 35 percent in October.
The exchange said it facilitated trading of 67 million contracts during the month. Average daily trading volume rose 29 percent to 3 million contracts per day. Daily trading on the exchange's electronic platform rose 29 percent to 2.1 million contracts.
CBOT said trading of agricultural derivatives like futures and options set a record for growth. Average daily trading volume of agricultural derivatives reached 684,766 contracts, more than double the average of October last year.
Trading of interest rate contracts and metals derivatives also increased, CBOT said.
Shares of CBOT Holdings rose $1.99 to $150.39 in late-morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
