AURORA, Colo., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- The Medical Center of Aurora is the only hospital in the state named to the list of "2006 Best Companies to Work For in Colorado" and is in the top 5 list of all Colorado companies.
In acknowledging the award made yesterday, Sylvia Young, hospital CEO, said, "This honor reflects on the efforts of some 1,500 staff who work together to make our facility the best hospital to work for in the state ... everyday. We truly reflect our motto of 'It's What's Inside That Counts'."
The initiative was created to: * honor companies in Colorado that show dedication to their employees' growth and quality of life; * develop information to help companies retain their workforce; * promote Colorado's best employment opportunities to attract new workers
Each company participated in a two-step process conducted by Modern Think. First, the employer completed a questionnaire; second, employees of the company complete a confidential survey.
Kathy Yeager, VP of Human Resources, reported, "Nearly 350 employees of The Medical Center of Aurora answered the confidential survey questions. This demonstrates how engaged our employees are: how their views and "voice" are heard and valued."
Yeager adds, "We have worked hard to develop a participative culture for employees. It's paid off as we see satisfaction scores improve year after year."
The awards program is a first offered statewide in Colorado, and is modeled after Fortune Magazine's "100 Best Companies to Work for in America," and Best Places to Work programs administered in 15 other states. It is a collaborative effort among several partner, including Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Colorado State Council, Jobing.com, Colorado Biz Magazine, and the Best Companies Group.
Located at I-225 and Mississippi The Medical Center of Aurora -- HealthONE is licensed for 346 beds and has approximately 18,000 inpatient admissions yearly. A Level II Trauma Center, the hospital is noted as a market leader in cardiovascular services and is an HCA "Cardiovascular Center of Excellence." Other areas of special focus include orthopedics, general surgery, urology and women's services.
