Four Players Advance to Final Round of Home Run Hitting Contest

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Michael Burgess and Cameron Rupps sent murmurs through the stands Friday afternoon as they were the top two sluggers during the first round of the Aflac All-American Home Run Derby at the University of San Diego's Cunningham Stadium.

Burgess, from Tampa's Hillsborough High School, led the way with five home runs - including one that cleared a six-story dormitory roof beyond the right field wall more that 400 feet away. Coming in second was Cameron Rupp of Prestonwood High School (Plano, Texas), who belted four. After three rounds of a homer-off - several players on both squads hit just two home runs - San Diego's Sequoyah Stonecipher from Mission Bay High School, and Steven Brooks, from Seton Hall Prep (Wyckoff, N.J.) advance to Saturday morning's finals. The Home Run Derby will take place at 11 a.m., just before the Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic at San Diego State's Tony Gwynn Stadium.

The fourth annual Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic will be played on Saturday, August 12th at San Diego State's Tony Gwynn Stadium. The event is the nation's elite high school baseball showcase featuring the top 38 rising senior players in an East vs. West match-up. Jackson is the honorary chairman of the 2006 game, which will be televised live nationally on FSN at 3 p.m. Eastern Time. Net proceeds from the game will benefit San Diego's Rady Children's Hospital and Health Center.
