Sun's Solaris servers now account for the majority of UNIX server shipments worldwide with 56.9% share. Sun's year-to-year Solaris server revenue was up 12.9% while the nearest two competitors saw declines in their UNIX server revenue.

"All the data is now in and we believe the result is clear: Sun has the right formula for growth," said John Fowler, executive vice president, Sun's systems group. "We open sourced the Solaris 10 operating platform which is driving significant adoption; our x64 products are growing at an incredible clip; and we're clearly demonstrating the strength and innovation of our SPARC systems. While the others are faltering Sun is on the right track."
