VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- The AMERIGROUP Foundation today announced that Senator Robert Duncan of Lubbock has been honored with its "Champion for Children" award.
The award is part of the AMERIGROUP Foundation's national program recognizing outstanding public advocacy efforts by government and community leaders in improving the health and well-being of the nation's children.

To commemorate Senator Duncan's commitment to children in the Lubbock area, a $2,500 Foundation check will be presented to the South Plains Children's Shelter during a reception at the facility. The shelter provides short-term emergency care for abused children, creates stability for those in its care, teaches skills for success in long-term placement or at home, and strives to prevent involvement in the criminal justice system.
Senator Duncan said he is honored by the award and appreciative of the Foundation's support in Lubbock.

The event will take place at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, August 29 at the South Plain's Children's Shelter. The media is welcome to attend.
