Nuclear Expert/Consultant Elected to Ameren Board of Directors

ST. LOUIS, Aug. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The board of directors of Ameren Corporation announced today that Jack D. Woodard has been elected to the Ameren board.

Woodard served for more than 30 years at The Southern Company, retiring from its subsidiary, Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc., in Birmingham, Ala., in 2004 as executive vice president and chief nuclear officer. Since his retirement from Southern Nuclear, he has served as a consultant and technical advisor to several utilities on nuclear issues. Woodard previously served as an independent advisor to the Ameren board of directors and to that board's Nuclear Oversight Committee.

Since 2002, Woodard has served as a consultant to the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO), the industry's standards-setting and training organization that serves to promote excellence in nuclear safety and operations. He is also a member of INPO's National Nuclear Accreditation Board. Previously, Woodard served as chairman of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) PWR Materials Management Program Steering Committee and as vice chairman of both the EPRI's Materials Reliability Project and of the Steam Generator Management Project.

"We are extremely pleased with Jack Woodard's election. He brings to Ameren decades of experience in nuclear operations and a deep knowledge of emerging technologies and public policy issues related to the nuclear industry," said Ameren Corporation Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Gary L. Rainwater.

A native of Nashville, TN, Woodard earned a bachelor's degree in physics from North Georgia College and a master's degree in physics from Auburn University. He is also a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's senior executive program.

Woodard, a resident of Birmingham, Ala., is also on the board of the Alabama Head Injury Foundation and is a veteran of service in Vietnam, where he was a captain in the Ordnance Corps.

With assets of more than $18 billion, Ameren serves 2.4 million electric customers and one million natural gas customers in a 64,000-square-mile area of Missouri and Illinois.
