Customers Adopt Mercury Service Management Offerings

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today, Mercury Interactive Corporation , the global leader in business technology optimization (BTO) software, announced that InfoSpace, Inc. and Quixtar Inc. have adopted Mercury's service management offerings for their business service management (BSM), IT service management (ITSM), and configuration, change and release management (CCRM) initiatives. Mercury also announced that it is executing on its IT Service Management strategy with newly enhanced product integrations and new partner integrations with Mercury Universal CMDB(TM), Mercury's configuration management database (CMDB).

Mercury's service management offerings enable customers to mitigate IT business risk, increase IT business alignment, improve overall IT effectiveness and enhance the quality of business outcomes from IT. Mercury's service management offerings are built on powerful core technology, including Mercury Universal CMDB.

"At InfoSpace, as a leader in mobile entertainment, private-label search and online directory, our success depends on business applications to deliver information and entertainment services to consumers, while creating opportunities for partners, advertisers and content publishers," said Brian Jeide, director of commercial operations for InfoSpace, Inc. "With change as an inherent part of our business, we selected Mercury Change Control Management(TM), built on Mercury Universal CMDB, to help us assess the business impact of changes from the end-user perspective to help us deal effectively with all of the changes each week."

"Quixtar Independent Business Owners count on us to keep our applications up and running in order to support their online health and beauty businesses," said Greg Robinson, a senior systems support expert at Quixtar Inc. "Mercury Business Availability Center(TM) built on Mercury Universal CMDB helps identify the dynamic relationships between business services, applications, and their supporting infrastructure. This solution enables us to better manage by service levels and ensure a positive end-user experience."

Mercury Universal CMDB

Mercury Universal CMDB provides advanced discovery capabilities to capture, document, and store end-to-end service dependencies and associated infrastructure that support business services. The Mercury Universal CMDB also delivers federated data integration and reconciliation to leverage investments in traditional asset management or service desk centric CMDBs. The Mercury Universal CMDB's visualization and mapping capabilities provide the ability to view business service infrastructure in a logical and intuitive manner. It also tracks changes in configuration items (CIs) to help organizations triage change induced outages, audit compliance with enterprise standards, and audit the change management process by helping verify that only approved changes are made. Based on Mercury Application Mapping(TM) technology, Mercury Universal CMDB's automated, up-to-date synchronized information is core to enabling service management initiatives.

New Mercury Universal CMDB Partner Integrations

Mercury Alliance Program Partners have signed on to leverage the federation capabilities in Mercury Universal CMDB to extend Mercury's ITSM strategy in the areas of service desk, security, infrastructure policy management and release management. Through this federation capability, HP has integrated Mercury Universal CMDB with its HP OpenView AssetCenter and OpenView Service Desk software. In addition, partners that are integrating with Mercury Universal CMDB include ArcSight for enterprise security management, Cambia CM for infrastructure and security policy management, mValent for application release and configuration management and Telelogic for business process modeling and enterprise architecture.

Newly Enhanced Product Integrations with Mercury Universal CMDB

Mercury also announced that it is executing on its BTO strategy for IT Service Management with the introduction of new product integrations to help customers with their BSM and CCRM initiatives. New integrations between Mercury Business Availability Center, Mercury Change Control Management and Mercury Universal CMDB help customers:

-- Accelerate root cause analysis for problem isolation and identification in order to prevent service level agreement breaches: Mercury Business Availability Center leverages the information in Mercury Universal CMDB to help identify which application and infrastructure components a service relies upon and provide a history of their changes for faster resolution of problems; -- Align operations and applications groups with the change advisory board: Mercury Business Availability Center and Mercury Change Control Management leverage Mercury Universal CMDB as a common foundation to provide a consistent view of approved changes and the services they may impact to enable proactive service level management; and -- Mitigate the risk of changes from negatively impacting business outcomes: Mercury Change Control Management leverages Mercury Universal CMDB to identify all of the configuration items (CIs) associated with a change so that they can be proactively monitored in production to help prevent downtime and minimize impact to customers.

In addition, existing integrations between Mercury Change Control Management and Mercury Universal CMDB help customers with CCRM initiatives by providing automated, up-to-date information to gauge the business impact of changes, identify potential collisions and minimize the likelihood of disruption. This automation of the change management process helps customers mitigate the risk of application and infrastructure changes from negatively impacting business outcomes.

"Many of our customers are taking a business service centric approach to implementing a CMDB in order to get quick time-to-value for their BSM and CCRM initiatives," said Robin Purohit, vice president of application management and service management products at Mercury. "They are using federation to share configuration data between multiple CMDBs to leverage currently installed service desk, systems monitoring and asset management systems. We believe our new product and partner integrations will help accelerate our customers' ability to mitigate risk and optimize the business outcomes of IT."

"The business case justification for a CMDB is usually tied to high-visibility projects, such as security auditing, change management, process re-engineering (for example, ITIL), improving availability of mission-critical systems, and configuration compliance initiatives," said Ronni Colville, research vice president, Gartner. "The driver for this 'renewed' focus on an integrated view is that IT must define services from devices to servers, networks, storage, applications and data to better serve the ever-changing and dynamic nature of business needs."
