SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gay.com, the flagship social networking site of PlanetOut Inc. , the leading media and entertainment company exclusively focused on the gay and lesbian market, celebrated the release of the Scissor Sisters' second album, "Ta-Dah," by hosting its largest-ever Gay.com Worldwide Online Listening Party, from September 18 to September 28.
Gay.com gave site visitors around the world an early sneak preview of all 12 new songs in their entirety via audio streams. Thousands of listeners also immediately responded to each song as part of "Gay.com's Gay Vote," with its tagline "Love it? Hate it? Rate it!" With thousands of votes cast, 77 percent of voters gave the sophomore album at least a "Love it!" rating.
"Gay.com Scissor Sisters fans are such a rabid group that just listening to the album -- even before the album is released -- is not enough," said Jenny Stewart, manager, entertainment programming, Gay.com. "They want to talk about it, react to it and get their hands on everything they can. And we gave them the opportunity to be a part of this band's release by becoming the critic -- before the critics."
Gay.com's listening party showcased some of the site's most important features. "We strive to give our members access to compelling content and an interactive platform to share their thoughts immediately," said Anne Moellering, vice president, U.S. marketing, PlanetOut Inc. "We utilize the strength of the Internet to connect our members globally, as well as through common interests. This worldwide listening party is a prime example."
Gay.com first promoted Scissor Sisters in 2003 on its RockOut channel, before the band hit the charts. The first of its kind, Gay.com's RockOut channel, sponsored by Jeep, spotlights emerging artists for millions of music fans. A new crop of artists recently made their RockOut debut on Gay.com with members again having the chance to weigh in with "Gay.com's Gay Vote."
