BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Oct. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- HealthSouth Corporation (OTC Pink Sheets: HLSH) announced today the appointment of John P. Whittington, to the position of Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary effective immediately. Whittington has served on an interim basis in this same role since July 26, 2006.

Prior to joining HealthSouth, Whittington was a partner of Bradley Arant Rose & White LLP, a regional law firm based in Birmingham, Ala. He has been a practicing attorney for almost 35 years, representing parties in complex business reorganization cases. Since 1990, Whittington has served as adjunct professor at Cumberland School of Law at Samford University and he is a member of the Birmingham Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar and co-chair of the ABA sub-committee on Financial Institution Litigation. He is a graduate of Guilford College and received his J.D. from Cumberland School of Law.
