New America Media (NAM) and Comcast Launch 'New America Now' Ethnic News Program Throughout Northern California

SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Comcast, in partnership with New America Media, announced today the launch of "New America Now", a monthly news program featuring people and stories making news in America's growing ethnic and youth media sector.

"New America Now" will air exclusively on On Demand, Comcast's popular video-on-demand service, which allows customers to watch the program anytime they want, with the ability to fast-forward, rewind, and pause. The segments will air first in Northern California and will become available in other select Comcast markets over the coming year.

"Given California's growing new ethnic majority, it's important that we hear the voices and views of our multicultural communities," said Rick Germano, Senior Vice President for Comcast California. "In Comcast's ongoing commitment to offering ethnically-diverse original programming, we expanded our long-term partnership with New America Media to bring to light these multicultural news reports, and give them the mainstream attention that they may not have had before."

New America Media, the country's first and largest national association of ethnic news organizations, is producing the monthly segments in collaboration with its media partners. Every show features at least three distinct segments, each five to seven minutes long, that literally let viewers "step into the story," says NAM Executive Director Sandy Close.

"'New America Now' draws on the multiple lenses of ethnic and youth media to reflect who we're becoming as a global society," Close added. "It's the jewel in the crown of NAM's multi-media news exchange, connecting otherwise invisible or voiceless communities to each other and to the larger society through intimate story telling."

"New America Now captures the global in local news and the local in global news," said Erica Smith, Senior Director of Communications for Comcast. "At a time of unprecedented diversity in America, which few mainstream news outlets can fully capture, New America Now represents inclusive journalism for the 21st century."

About Comcast On Demand

On Demand offers an ever-growing library of more than 7,500 programs each month available anytime that customers want to watch them, with the ability to fast forward, rewind and pause selections. Approximately 95% of On Demand content-including "New America Now"-is available at no additional charge to Digital customers (where On Demand is available).
