Sybase iAnywhere Delivers SQL Anywhere 10 for Mac OS X on Intel

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Macworld Conference & Expo -- Sybase iAnywhere today announced the availability of SQL Anywhere(R) 10 for Intel-based Macs. This release provides the first data management and synchronization solution for Intel-based Macs and enables organizations to capture, manage, and capitalize on the explosion of mission-critical data in frontline environments. Additionally, the company revealed that the free Developer Edition of SQL Anywhere 10 is available for download or by visiting the Sybase iAnywhere booth #N4034 (Moscone North Hall) at the Macworld Conference & Expo.

SQL Anywhere was built from its inception to address the unique characteristics of frontline environments such as high-performance server and desktop applications running at remote customer sites, workgroup applications deployed in enterprise departments and remote offices and mobile applications used by sales people or service technicians. SQL Anywhere also provides the first solution for bi-directional synchronization between heterogeneous database servers running in the enterprise and databases running on Mac Pro and other Intel-based machines.

"Support for the new Intel-based Macs in SQL Anywhere 10 is driven by significant customer and partner interest," said Dave Neudoerffer, vice president of engineering at iAnywhere. "Enterprises and ISVs looking for an easy-to-use, embeddable database that can handle large volumes of mission-critical data in frontline environments, will find it in SQL Anywhere 10."

"Mac OS X running on our Intel-based Macs provides an unbeatable mix of power, security, stability and ease-of-use," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We're thrilled that Sybase iAnywhere has delivered a new version of its enterprise caliber data management and synchronization software designed to take full advantage of Mac OS X and our Intel-based Macs in frontline environments."

"We have a significant number of customers already using SQL Anywhere in their Servoy applications on the Mac platform," said Jan Aleman, CEO, Servoy, Inc. "The performance, security, and developer productivity enhancements in SQL Anywhere 10 will enable our customers to take the rich business Internet applications they build with Servoy to the next level."

"SQL Anywhere with Servoy has enabled us to create an online reference and teaching library of immuno stains without the need for a DBA or development team. Everything just worked out of the box with Mac OS X," said Dr. Roger Warnke, Department of Medicine, Stanford University. "The simplicity and ease of SQL Anywhere and Servoy RAD tool meant we could build our application on top of an enterprise relational database in a fraction of the time of other technologies."

SQL Anywhere provides multiple data access interfaces, such as JDBC, ODBC, Perl, and PHP that developers can use to create rich solutions with a variety of development tools, including Xcode, with either Java or the Cocoa framework, CodeWarrior, Project Builder, or Servoy. Additionally, its support for open standards and industry technologies, such as XML and Web Services, ensure developers can choose the technologies that best meet their needs.
