Diodes, Inc. Announces Latest Generation High-Current, High-Voltage PWM Buck Converter

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Jan. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Diodes Incorporated , a leading manufacturer and supplier of high-quality discrete and analog semiconductors, today introduced its latest generation 300KHz, 3A Asynchronous PWM Buck Converter -- AP1580. The AP1580 was designed to meet the growing demand for higher efficiencies and smaller form factor packaging required in today's power management designs. The AP1580 with its wide input voltage range of 10V to 40V, and adjustable output voltage from 0.8V to 36V is well suited to support a variety of applications including LCD monitors & TVs, plasma display panels (PDP), power adaptors and battery chargers as well as high end networking and telecommunication equipment.

The AP1580 converter is fully integrated with an internal switch and is capable of delivering continuous output current up to 3A with excellent line and load regulation characteristics. Higher efficiency is obtained through the use of a low Rdson (80 milliOhms) NMOS power switch. The new AP1580 converter has a 300KHz fixed switching frequency, which allows the use of smaller external components, thus minimizing required PC board area and total bill of materials cost. In addition, the AP1580 has an enable function that can power down the converter to a low 2 microamperes standby mode making it ideal for use in Energy Star applications such as LCD and plasma display TVs. Additional features integrated to increase reliability are thermal shutdown, current limiting and short circuit protect. A high performance voltage error amplifier is also implemented on-chip to provide tight voltage regulation accuracy under transient conditions. The feedback loop is also internally compensated thus eliminating the need for additional external components. The AP1580 results in a simple to implement and cost effective power conversion solution offering high power efficiency in a compact form factor.

"In conjunction with the release of the new AP1580 product, we also introduce the SOP-8L package now manufactured at our Diodes-China facility," commented Mark King, Diodes' Sr. VP of Sales and Marketing. "The introduction of the AP1580 converter demonstrates our commitment to expand and innovate our analog products and provide useful solutions targeted at important high volume electronic devices like LCD and plasma display TVs."

Offered in the small, thermally enhanced, SOP-8L package, the AP1580 requires 5 times less PCB area than the standard TO-220 or TO-263 packages typically used to support 3A drive currents. The AP1580 wide operating junction temperature ranges from -40 degrees Celsius to 125 degrees Celsius making it well suited to support extended temperature requirements for commercial to industrial applications.

Favoritenwechsel
