J.D. Power and Associates Reports: Aultman Hospital Recognized for a Third Consecutive Year for Providing an Outstanding Inpatient Experience

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Aultman Hospital, a 682-bed teaching hospital in Canton, Ohio, has been recognized for a third consecutive year for service excellence under the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital Program(SM). This distinction acknowledges a strong commitment by Aultman Hospital, to provide its patients with an "Outstanding Inpatient Experience."

"Because patients place a high value on the service aspects of their hospital stay, providing patients with a consistent, positive experience year after year is as important to hospitals as it is to any other service industry," said David Stefan, executive director of the healthcare division of J.D. Power and Associates.

The service excellence distinction was determined by surveying a random sample of recently discharged Aultman Hospital patients about their perceptions of their hospital stay. Their responses were then compared to the national benchmark established by the annual J.D. Power and Associates National Hospital Service Performance Study(SM).

The telephone-based survey focused on the five key drivers of patient satisfaction, which were identified in the national study; dignity and respect; speed and efficiency; comfort; information and communication; and emotional support.

Aultman Hospital exceeded the national benchmark target study score for overall patient satisfaction. The hospital performed well compared to the national study with respect to the comfort of their facilities. The hospital received high ratings in this area relative to the national study on the comfort of the bed and the room and on their nurses' concern about controlling pain.

Aultman also performed well relative to the national study with respect to the speed and efficiency with which its staff delivered care, especially on the availability of the doctor and the doctor's coordination of care with the nurses.

Additionally, patients were asked to rate their level of trust and confidence in the hospital after their most recent stay. Among Aultman patients, 33 percent indicated they have much more trust and confidence in the hospital after their most recent stay. This is higher than the national average of 27 percent.

Non-government, acute-care hospitals throughout the nation are eligible for the J.D. Power and Associates Distinguished Hospital recognition for inpatient, emergency department, outpatient, and maternity services. Distinction is valid for one year, after which the hospital may reapply for this recognition.
