WASHINGTON, Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Reed Tuckson, M.D., executive vice president of UnitedHealth Group , released the following statement:
UnitedHealth Group applauds today's announcement to bring quality health care coverage to America's children by a bipartisan coalition of U.S. Representatives.
This bill is a tangible advancement advocated by the Health Care Coalition for the Uninsured (HCCU), a group of national organizations working together to help bring access to coverage for the nation's uninsured, of which UnitedHealth Group and Families USA were cofounders.
The Healthy Kids Act, introduced by U.S. Representatives Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), Jim Ramstad (R-MN), Allyson Schwartz (D-PA), Carol Shea Porter (D-NH), Mike Ross (D-AR) and Ray LaHood (R-IL), would provide uninsured children with access to quality health care by streamlining the State Children's Health Insurance Plan (SCHIP) enrollment process and provide states with the resources to provide coverage to eligible children. The proposed legislation will also provide families that are not eligible for Medicaid or SCHIP with a Health Savings Tax Credit, which they can use to purchase private health coverage for their children.
We look forward to the Senate to create a similar, bipartisan approach to ensure that our children will have access to the health care they need. It's the right thing to do for our kids and it's good for America.
